Thought Leaders Forum: Philip Kotler on Peter F. Drucker
(image placeholder)

How have Peter F Drucker and his work made a difference in your life and work?
Peter is one of the most remarkable men I have met. He is a genius at reading patterns in history and anticipating large-scale economic, political and social trends. His historical and contemporary knowledge is phenomenal. One has to admire his ability to develop fresh management theory and practical advice on management problems. Peter Drucker is the Father of Management. For many of us, he is our role model, continually generating new ideas and refining old ones. I regard it as a compliment when some people call me the Father of Marketing. I tell them that if this the case, then Peter Drucker is the Grandfather of marketing.
What books, articles, or experiences with Drucker have made the greatest impact on you?

I read Peter's Management book several times a year to brush up on management fundamentals. Every book of his contains valuable insights and lessons. I enjoyed the time he interviewed me about nonprofit marketing. We have had some correspondence and I am still amazed that he hand-writes his letters and notes.
What do you feel is Peter F. Drucker's greatest contribution to thinking about management, leadership, or society?
Peter's greatest contributions lay in conceptualizing the science of management, showing how it applies to all organizations (profit and not-for-profit), alerting us to the knowledge society, explaining how capitalism works, and showing that leadership is not a matter of charisma but a set of more fundamental management skills and traits.
